Chi mi conosce sa che ho avuto all'inizio seri problemi di personalità sdoppiate quando vado da solo "Cinque uomini in barca per tacer del cane" però dopo anni di autoanalisi su queste pagine avevo raggiunto un certo equilibrio (illuso ) e sono partito solo ed ottimista per questo giro in Grecia.
Sono un affabulatore , 21 ore di traghetto sono tante e ho attaccato bottone per tre o quattro parlando in italiano.
Una volta in mare la situazione è cambiata ed ho parlato con gli altri disgraziati solo in inglese.
Mi sono trovato anche a pensare in inglese e siccome sono abituato ad archiviare appunti nel mio ginocchio mentre viaggio mi sono accorto di avere metà delle cose in inglese da tradurre in italiano o versavice perciò trovo più funzionale scrivere e tradurre contemporaneamente questo

But trekking on the sea I did find many other victims but I spoke only in English.
Soon I was also thinking in English and, as I usually do while paddling, I stored my thoughts in my knee for future use, in that language.
When I started to write this article retrieving them I found a mumble jumble half Italian half English so I got to translate them English-Italian an Italian-English and so here it is a

Questa volta il solito pocobono ha partorito un'idea mista tra pagaiata e follia degna di questa impresa e io l'ho proposta su internet.
Tanti 'vorrei ma ... ' però solo il giovane vecchio salato ha cominciato a ragionare seriamente

Poi non è venuto ma ormai la purezza del sogno era infranta e da buon lucchese ho cominciato a pensare anche ai soldi.

I had obviously some  ‘wish I could ..’  ‘had I known in time …’ ‘ ’haps next time…’ and only a young ol’ salt began to make sensible projects

Now it’s time for the list of expenses ( left or red entries of the double entry page ) , the places I’ve been and what happened:
Transport is heavy  35 € fuel + highway fares 19.1 (54.1) to Ancona then there’s the ferry to Patras + 60 (114.1) . The ship (Superfast ) is  brand new and well equipped also for childrens:

Later I realized that many passengers are Turks.
In Turkey wrestling is the national sport and so I had the luck to see a young, massive, bare chested, Turk youngster who, using as weapons those cute foam building blocks, was beating the living shit off wiry courageous tenacious indomitable but inexorably lighter French and English boys

No cabin nor air seats I'm more confortable on my air mattress and sleeping bag.
You have only one hour to catch the ferry 13.4 (136) to Cefalonia that leaves at 12.30 from a moor on the right so being ½ hour late I must hurry or I’ll be stranded in Patras ‘till eight.  
No sweat for me but my last victim is the last to embark with his land-rover towing an inflatable on a trailer with ship's moorings already free. .

Questo è il momento di cominciare la partita doppia delle spese e dire dove quando e come sono stato se voglio fare almeno qualcosina di utile ai lettori. I trasporti sono una tragedia 35 € di benzina fino a Ancona 19.1 (54.1) autostrada poi c'è la nave Superfast 60 (114.1) . Meno male che è nuova e ben attrezzata anche con dei solidissimi giochi per bambini.
Fino a quando ho visto che tantissimi passeggeri erano turchi e un manfano turco seminudo massacrare a colpi di blocchi da costruzioni in gommapiuma cinque ammirevolmente tenaci bambini europei non mi sono reso realmente conto dell'accuratezza che devono aver messo nella progettazione.
Al bar della piscina fanno piatti greci con un passabile gyros e pita mentre il self service sembra più anonimo. 8.5 (122.6)
Dormo tra i diseredati sul ponte con materassino e sacco a pelo anche perchè mi dicono che a parte le cabine superlusso quelle economiche senza oblò sembrano dei colombari oltretutto in coabitazione.
Allo sbarco sbrigatevi perchè il traghetto 13.4 (136) per Cefalonia parte sul molo a destra alle 12.30 e se lo perdete rimanete bloccati fino alle 8 e arrivate a mezzanotte.
Con la canoa sono velocissimo ma la mia ultima vittima di Teramo riesce a caricare la sua Land-Rover con trailer e gommone solo a ormeggi già lascati. .

Piso Aetos - Capo San Andreas
Tutti, ma proprio tutti me lo avevano detto che nel pomeriggio Eolo timbrava il cartellino con un vento fortissimo per tutto il pomeriggio. Effettivamente l'impoppata cominciata alle cinque è stata dimolto soddisfacente a parte le surfate un pochino robuste .
A S.Andreas proseguo con la mia opera di rifinitura nel mestiere di saltimbanco acquatico ambulante.
E allora? ci sono quelli che con i barchini in certi posti vendono angurie alle barche ormeggiate.
Io vendo me stesso e la mia immagine di zingaro del mare in barba bianca per un bicchiere di acqua gelata e il piacere della conversazione. Per esempio qui ci sono tre begli yacht a vela inglesi che mi invitano a bordo tutti entusiasti di questo strano mestiere e della mia attrezzature (specie velica )

Questo è quello che rimane di un centinaio di bottiglie su questa spiaggina. Il sistema funziona e io ce l'ho un pochino con i finti ecologisti che storcono il naso. Un tedesco di uno yacht che era venuto a fare un barbecue sulla spiaggia si sentiva tanto virtuoso perchè ne aveva raccolte un pò in un bel saccone da rumenta. Quando gli ho domandato se se le portava a bordo ha glissato e le ha nascoste dietro un frigorifero. Io ho bruciato anche quelle . . .

Piso Aetos – Cape ag. Andreas
I was told by friends that here Eolo has a regular job with timetables, quality standards and so on.
Till noon he can sleep but from 13 hours must contrive a north wind not less 18 knots and no more than 27 till 20 hours.
Being ready to start only at 6 p.m. I enjoy one hell of a ride till an inlet where many sailing yachts are safely moored. In more populated places than Ithaki merchants on boats go among them selling things.
I developed a similar craftmanship in selling myself for a glass of iced water and the sake of a conversation. I’m an oddity, a white bearded marine hobo and also a sail on his ? (Thing ? ) and  the exitus is inevitable.
I camp there and this black lump of dirt is what remains of a hundred PET bottles.
I’m mad at misguided ecologists like a German yachter who felt really virtuous having collected some in a brown garbage sack. When I said “Very sensible of you to carry away all this on your boat “ he stealthily hided it behind a  fridge.  I burnt also the sack.

Bene anzi benissimo ma mi fermo troppo a riposare all'una e poi il vento mi blocca di brutto

Decente stufato di agnello a Frykes 11.3 (147.3) poi continuo a giocare a nascondino dal vento dietro ogni roccia, approfitto anche dei rimbalzi per andare a vela. Capo melissa offre riparo sia ad est che ad ovest e non mi lascio scappare l'occasione prendere di un vento a 27 nodi e un mare formato sapendo che dall'altra parte c'è un posto sicuro per attraccare.

Magnifica traversata al lasco poi duro lavoro controvento fino ad una spiaggetta dove io e un milione di vespe ci siamo divisi una ottima pasta al pomodoro e tonno fatta davvero bene dallo chef di bordo.

Questa parte non soffre per il vento ma il mare aperto è sempre piuttosto alto. Il poso è in cluo al mondo e si trova ovviamente il meglio. Pseudocampeggini a Ag.Jerusalem dove forse sopravviverei anche io vista l'ottima cucina 15 (162.3)

All OK but early in the afternoon I’m stopped dead by the wind on a beach with the wreck of a restaurant 500 mt of pure white pebbles all for me.

Lamb stew in Frikes 11.3 (147.3) then two hours of hide and seek from the north gale downwind every single rock till cape Melissa on the east side.
I find that there is a haven also on the west so I circumnavigate the rocky peninsula with a wind 27 knots and a sea to match.

A fine crossing broad reaching the channel wind  then toiling upwind to an inlet where me and a million wasps really appreciated a good tuna and tomatoes pasta.

The coast facing the open sea is really wonderful with sheer cliffs and caves and a sea never flat although it’s protected from the wind.
I think It’s beyond the end of the world and the camping areas you can find here in Ag Jerusalem nearly fulfil my requirements. I eat in a taberna a very good calamari stew and the potatoes were not frozen 15 (162.3)

The absolute evil.
Assos is a fine hamlet sunny and clean but it’s the theatre of an event it makes me eneasy.
I park my SitOnTop in the corner of the beach and go searching for some fruits.
Coming back I see that a young man and his wife are examining very closely my SOT and the various gears I use.
His name is Alberto from Rome and is doing an advanced course to become an instructor of marine kayakying for Sottocosta.
Sottocosta is a very very very serious association that is strictly in the inuit tradition, sleek fibreglass sit inside kayaks, Greenland style paddles, oceanic PersonalFloatingDevices on, paddle floats,  rules over rules on behaviour on the sea.
When I began in 1995 I was taught to be a perfect inuit by the very same Raymond Varraud who’s teaching Alberto.
Now I’m a lot of bad examples, I go alone, I use a SOT in polyethilene and a cross paddle, my not so regular PFD is under the net behind me, I have also a sail.
In perfect truth I don’t think I’m doing one single thing properly except enjoying the sea safely.
Once Raymond said ‘you’re a good tecnich, of another parish, but a good technic ‘.
Alberto snapped a lot of pics (I'm waiting to insert them) and seemed happy meeting me; I hope I hadn’t spoilt him. .

Il Male.. il Male.
Assos sembra un posto solare e tranquillo ma è testimone di un incontro che mi mette un pochino a disagio.
Parcheggio il mio SitOnTop in un angolo della spiaggina per trovare un pò di frutta e quando torno, ovviamente senza averla trovata trovo un giovanotto e sua moglie che lo osservano molto interessati. Sono italiani lui si chiama Alberto Ruggieri da Roma e sta addirittura studiando per diventare istruttore di Sottocosta con l'istesso medesimo Raymond Varraud che mi ha insegnato ad essere un perfetto inuit nel 1995. Allora, snello kayak in vtr con pagaia eschimese e salvagente oceanico addosso, ligio alle regole e molto compreso.
Poi ho tralignato appena un pochino ed ora sono Il Cattivo Esempio.
Solo, un SOT in polietilene raschiato da troppi scogli, salvagente (parola grossa ) saldamente bloccato dietro di me, pagaia incrociata a 70°, persino una vela. Oltretutto sono anche convinto che questo sia il modo sicuro di andare per mare.
Alberto mi ha fatto un monte di foto che mi ha promesso di spedire e sembrava davvero contento di avermi conosciuto.
Spero proprio di non averlo traviato comunque una cosa mi consola:

Adverse gods ( theoi kaka )
I’ll die trying not to come back on my traces. Dreaming of this trip I thought to close it towing my kayak on the trolley through the basis of the fuck you finger of Cefalonia after one more day wandering around Mirthos beach. But when I saw the road before me realized that sight would spoil the day haunting me so I decided to do it at once. This is the land of mithos and legends and had faith that as a centaur I could do it.
When I started to assemble the trolley found that the inexorable Greek sun had blown one tire. A hemiplegich centaur with a flat tire is stranded. I sat in despair in the shadow of the baywatch tower thinking like Odysseus  then all at once a flash "Me from the back rail of the ferry just leaving for Cefalonia and my last victim of the onward journey doing a desperate dash with his Land-Rover and a beautiful trailer behind it.
Also when I have my logorrea fits I leave my victims enough time to say something so I knew he was staying in the camping of Sami and ‘cause his wife was prone to sea sickness returned early in the afternoon.
I left my canoe to the baywatcher hitchiked to Ag.Eufemia then a taxi to Sami 10(172.3). Didn’t know the name but I could describe him at the reception (he was a cripple ) .
They, Danilo Maria and his son, greeted me like a long lost son and were glad to help me. .

Gli Dei mali ( theoi kaka )
Un giorno non mi troveranno più perchè non sopporto di tornare indietro da dove passato. Per questo avevo progettato l'attraversamento del dito medio di Cefalonia da Myrthos beach a Ag.Eufemia con il carrellino dopo aver girellato ancora una giornata da quelle parti. Quando mi sono visto davanti la salitina ho capito che questo mi avrebbe mandato di traverso qualunque cosa avessi fatto nell'attesa e visto che siamo nella terra dei miti e delle leggende mi sono travestito da centauro per levarmi il pensiero.
Ho scoperto però che per colpa del sole della Grecia oltre ad essere un centauro emiplegico avevo anche una gomma a terra. Ercole istesso non ce l'avrebbe fatta. Così mi sono accasciato all'ombra della torretta del bagnino Christopher che mi ha anche offerto una pesca per consolarmi.
Allora come Ulisse mi sono messo a pensare. Ho avuto un lampo. Io che dalla balaustra del traghetto per Cefalonia vedo la mia ultima vittima del viaggio di andata che all'ultimo tuffo lo prende con una Land-Rover e un bellissomo gommone carrellato. Oltre che parlare ascolto e so se non il nome che è al campeggio di Sami e i suoi orari
Autostop, taxi 10(172.3), rapida investigazione alla reception del campeggio e vengo accolto da Danilo Maria e suo figlio come il figliol prodigo e prontamente recuperato. .

Spent the rest of the day with them at the camping 10.5(182.8) had a moussaka 8.5(191.3) in the crowded but lively village and in the morning went back on my traces to Italy.
